September 5, 2003 - Haywood County Outreach Meeting:

We opened the meeting by explaining why we were there. We have a serious problem. Only two months into the new year we have already invested $6000 in Haywood County and the waiting list is growing. Home modifications for a person with a disability who cannot enter or exit their home addresses not only convenience and independence, but also safety issues.

We told those attending we saw two possible solutions:

1. Finding other agencies we could refer these requests to, or
2. Finding funds so we could do the job.

No one at the meeting knew of another agency who could provide home modifications to people with disabilities in Haywood County. When we went to plan 2, the committe suggested many fundraising ideas such as yard sales, bake sales and road blocks. It was agreed to meeting on the first Friday of each moth to plan the events which will begin following the United Way campaign that will end on November 26.

October 3, 2003 (12 Noon) at Union Planters Bank in Brownsville.

The committee is planning a Road Block on Friday, December 5 using at least 8 volunteers. On Christmas Parade Day December 6, a Bake Sale at Walmart.
