CODE OF ETHICS


As a Board member, Staff person, or Volunteer of JCIL, I affirm that:

I will not discriminate against or refuse professional services to anyone on the basis of race, color, creed, age, sex, religion, disability, or nationality.

I will not use my professional position or relationships to further my own personal interests.

I will evidence a genuine interest in my duties and in the people I come in contact with in the performance of my duties.

I will treat individuals with dignity, respect and courtesy and respect their privacy, holding in confidence all personal information obtained in the course of professional service.

I will not exploit my position or the trust placed in me, avoiding conflicts of interest and inappropriate relationships that might bring discredit upon JCIL, its Board, other staff, or consumers.

I will not engage in any form of discrimination or harassment.

I will accept those responsibilities that are rightfully mine; exercise the authority given me judiciously, and act as a steward in the management of the resources entrusted to me.

I will not violate any local, state or federal laws.

I will espouse and practice to the best of my ability the independent living philosophy and perform my duties in a manner consistent with the values set forth in this document.
