Mr. President. Why did you hide your disability? About FDR hiding his disability, my son and I disagree about this issue. He said FDR should have hidden his disability from the public because the public would ASSUME he was not capable of serving as a good President. I think FDR should have shown the public he was a smart, more than capable President who happened to have a disability. Kathie Snow would chime in here & say PRESUME COMPETENCE about now! My other son agrees with me. ;-) What are your thoughts? TCM I don't think he would have been elected had the public known he used a wheelchair, I'm sorry to say. It was a different time. We hid disabilities in the attic, the back room, the basement or the institutions in those days. I think he was wrong but I think I know why he did it. That said, we now know a chair user can lead us out of a great depression and lead us to victory in a great world war.
